Learning disability team

More information

Our learning disability team support our adult patients with a learning disability and/or autism, their families and carers through their hospital journey. This includes:

  • Highlighting the use of a hospital passport or purple folder that holds information about the person with a learning disability so that this is available to our teams.
  • Facilitating reasonable adjustments to support access to care and treatment for our patients. Reasonable adjustments could include support with clinic appointments, blood tests, investigations and diagnostic appointments.
  • Supporting people with learning disability and/or autism during their stay in hospital.
  • Liaising closely with our patient’s next of kin, relatives, paid carers and the community learning disability teams.

To contact the team, please email paht.learningdisabilities@nhs.net or call 01279 978742, Monday – Friday, 8am-4pm.

Purple all-stars – supporting people with learning disabilities

We work closely with the purple all-stars, who are a group of people with learning disabilities who have a passion for helping people learn how to look after their health.

The group deliver health and social care messages in different forms of communication such as film, dance, songs, plays, art and photos. Take a look at some of their useful videos via this link.

Inpatient comment:

Everyone offered words of such reassurance and kindness. I felt so cared for and the communication with me at all times was fantastic.
