Women to be invited to breast screening service at Herts and Essex Hospital

Women in the Bishop Stortford area who are eligible for breast screening will receive an invitation to attend an appointment from July, as breast screening recommences after pausing due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Appointments will take place at a mobile unit based at the Herts and Essex Hospital in Bishop’s Stortford from Monday 13 July 2020.

The service, run by The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust, will be screening patients aged from 50-70, who are due for their three-yearly scan.

Strict social distancing measures are in place to ensure that Government guidelines are adhered to and that there is at least two metres between staff and patients at all times. Patients are asked to wear a face mask covering when they enter the mobile breast unit, and any visitors are politely asked to wait in the car park whilst the appointment takes place. Staff will be wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and hand gel dispensers are available on entry and exit.

All women eligible for screening and registered with a GP will receive an automatic invitation to attend, with further details provided. However, women who wish to discuss being referred for screening or have any further questions can call 01992 560001.

Inpatient comment:

Everyone offered words of such reassurance and kindness. I felt so cared for and the communication with me at all times was fantastic.
