Supporting our younger patients and their mental wellbeing

We Can Talk is a project run by Healthy Teen Minds in partnership with NHS England and more than 40 NHS trusts nationally.

The project utilises the experience and expertise of children, young people, hospital teams and mental health experts, to improve the experience of children and young people who present to hospital because they are struggling with their mental health.

To support this project, young people can simply show the We Can Talk image or business card (pictured, right) at our paediatric ED reception, to discreetly explain their reason for attendance, before speaking with our nursing team in private.

The card also includes the names and contact details of key specialist helplines for additional support for future reference, including:

Inpatient comment:

Everyone offered words of such reassurance and kindness. I felt so cared for and the communication with me at all times was fantastic.
