Ophthalmology service prepares to move to new diagnostic unit

Ophthalmology outpatients at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) with scheduled eye diagnostic tests and scans will now attend the new ophthalmology diagnostic unit from Tuesday 1 February.
With the growing demand for the ophthalmology service, the move to the new unit will enhance experiences for patients to ensure that they are reviewed and treated as soon as possible.
Patients will receive a follow-up virtual appointment or a face-to-face appointment, where appropriate, to discuss their results and treatment.
The new unit is located two miles away from the main hospital site, approximately a six-minute drive (Keats House, first floor, The Fairway, Harlow, CM18 6LY). Local bus routes are also available.
Patients who will be affected by the move have been informed directly by the hospital ophthalmology team.
Advice and guidance
- Patients should arrange to be dropped off at the unit as they may receive eye drops for pupil dilatation
- Patients must bring their distance glasses and a list of all regularly prescribed medications
- If patients are unable to sit on a chair for their eye test, they should contact the booking team prior to their appointment
- COVID-19 measures remain in place to keep patients, staff and visitors safe. Please continue to wear a face covering, take a quick lateral flow test before attending the unit and adhere to social distancing guidance.
If patients have any further queries, they should contact the ophthalmology booking team at 01279 973275, Monday-Friday, 8.30am-5:30pm.
