Maternity statement - Ockenden report

Giuseppe Labriola, director of midwifery, at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust has issued a statement in response to the publication on 30 March 2022 of the Ockenden Report into maternity care at the Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust.
"This review is a turning point for all those working in maternity services. It is a heart-breaking report but the actions are measured and sensible, and we will work in partnership across the Hertfordshire and West Essex Local Maternity and Neonatal System to implement them”.
"We are committed to implementing the immediate and essential actions in the Ockenden Report and progress with this will be shared in our public board papers. We have already made improvements with the interim Ockenden 2020 report, as well as other national initiatives to improve maternity care.*"As a team, we are reviewing the latest Ockenden Report in depth and will use the recommendations along with our recent investment in our maternity workforce and our plans for a complete refurbishment of our maternity unit, to improve our own maternity service.
We are always looking for ways to improve. Our work with the Maternity Voices Partnership provides a great opportunity to listen to and act on feedback from women, birthing people and their families who have had experience of our maternity service.
"We recognise that the publication of the report may have caused distress to women, pregnant people and their families who, for whatever reason, experienced difficulties related to their maternity care. We are here for them, either to hear how we could have done things better or to help them access support. If you have been affected in any way by the publication of the Report, please call our patient advice and liaison service (PALS) on 01279 827084 who will help."
