Local hospital invites community to become chaplaincy volunteers

Residents of Harlow and surrounding areas are being offered a unique opportunity to give back to their community by volunteering with the chaplaincy team at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT).
The hospital is welcoming applications from individuals who would like to provide comfort, support, and a caring presence to patients, their families, carers, and staff. No prior experience is needed—just a compassionate heart and a willingness to listen.
To prepare volunteers for this meaningful role, the chaplaincy team is offering a free 10-week training course. The first session will take place on Tuesday 6 May, starting at 6:30pm and finishing at 8:30pm, in the Learning and Education Centre at The Princess Alexandra Hospital, Hamstel Road, Harlow, CM20 1QX.
Revd. Christian Okeke, lead hospital chaplain at PAHT, said: “The role of a chaplaincy volunteer is about being present, listening without judgment and offering human connection in moments that truly matter.
“Volunteering as a chaplaincy supporter not only makes a difference in the lives of those receiving care but also provides volunteers with a sense of purpose, fulfilment, and belonging.
“We encourage anyone who feels called to support others to consider taking part in this training.”
