Local hospital call for new volunteers to lend a helping hand

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) is reaching out to the local community to ask for invaluable support from dedicated volunteers.

The voluntary services team at PAHT is seeking to recruit a number of compassionate care volunteers to help enhance patient experiences.

Jayne Moscow, voluntary services coordinator for compassionate care, said: “We are delighted to offer this life enriching opportunity to help make a difference for our patients and people.

“We have over 120 volunteers across our three sites, who play an invaluable role in the daily running of the hospital. As part of the role, volunteers will perform a variety of duties, including sitting alongside patients to encourage conversation or to be with them to provide company, reading them a newspaper or a story, and playing music from a device.

“Get involved and volunteer with us today – we can offer you a full training programme, including caring for our patients who have a learning disability, or are living with dementia, and one-to-one support sessions.”

This role is particularly important whilst visiting is currently restricted at the hospital in response to the COVID-19 Omicron variant. To apply, please contact jayne.moscow@nhs.net or call 01279 97 8387.

Inpatient comment:

Everyone offered words of such reassurance and kindness. I felt so cared for and the communication with me at all times was fantastic.
