Local hospital announces winner of its first DAISY Award®
Last month (April 2024) The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) announced the launch of its new DAISY Awards® programme which enables patients, families and colleagues to honour a nurse or midwife who has made a difference to their care.
The aim is to shine the spotlight on nurses and midwives who go the extra mile to ensure patients at PAHT receive high quality care and experiences.
The winner of the first DAISY Award® is Roshna Sivan, from Harlow, who works as a registered nurse on Penn Ward. She was nominated by a young patient who found themselves on the adult ward, a situation they found quite daunting; but thanks to the care and compassion shown by Roshna the patient felt safe and comforted. They described her as a real-life superhero, who goes above and beyond, with a most contagious smile on her face.
Roshna was presented with her DAISY Award by Sharon McNally, chief nurse and deputy chief executive.
Sharon said: “I am absolutely delighted to present Roshna with our first DAISY Award®. The nomination clearly demonstrates that she puts her patients at the heart of all she does. A very well-deserved DAISY Award winner. Congratulations Roshna.”
Roshna was presented with a DAISY Award® certificate, a beautiful hand carved Healer’s Touch Sculpture from Zimbabwe, a pin badge, copy of the full nomination, a gift bag and cinnamon rolls. The award will also give Roshna eligibility for numerous professional development, education and wellness benefits as part of the DAISY Awards® programme.
