The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) has announced the winner of its DAISY Awards® programme for March 2025.

The programme enables patients, families, and colleagues to honour a nurse or midwife who has made a difference to their care and to shine a spotlight on those who go the extra mile to ensure patients receive high-quality care and experiences.

For March 2025, the DAISY Award® has been presented to Ron Leslie, a heart failure specialist nurse in cardiology.

Ron was nominated for his dedication and professionalism in his role. The nomination received noted that “he is not just a healthcare professional, he is a beacon of compassion, empathy and unwavering dedication to his patients and their families.” The nomination, which was made by the relative of someone he had cared for went on to say he “exemplifies the very best of what it means to be a nurse, his compassion, knowledge and dedication to his patients make a lasting impact and we are incredibly grateful to have him as part of our relative’s care.”

PAHT hosted its annual Celebrating Our Professions on Friday 16 May, a day when nurses, midwives and allied health professionals working for the Trust are recognised for the invaluable contribution they make to patient care.

As part of the celebrations, Sharon McNally, chief nurse and deputy chief executive at PAHT, and Giuseppe Labriola, deputy chief nurse at PAHT, took the opportunity to present Ron with his DAISY® Award. This includes a DAISY Award® certificate, a beautiful hand-carved Healer’s Touch Sculpture from Zimbabwe, a pin badge, a copy of the full nomination, a gift bag and cinnamon rolls – a meaningful tradition of the award.

Speaking at the presentation, Sharon said: “The nominations received clearly demonstrate Ron’s commitment to putting his patients, and their families/carers, at the heart of all he does.

“I am delighted that his professionalism, passion and dedication have been recognised in this way and would like to thank him for all he does to support patients in his care.”

DAISY Award® winners also receive access to numerous professional development, education and wellness benefits as part of the programme.

Inpatient comment:

Everyone offered words of such reassurance and kindness. I felt so cared for and the communication with me at all times was fantastic.
