Hospital chaplains nominated for local community award

The chaplaincy team at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) has been nominated for a Heart for Harlow Community Award.

The annual community awards focus on a culture of appreciation and organisations who make a real difference to everyday life in Harlow.

The team were nominated for their ongoing commitment to providing spiritual care throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, working collaboratively with clinical colleagues to develop their services, and their involvement with plans to create a new tranquil sanctuary area.

Reverend Gill Newman, hospital chaplain at PAHT, said: “We are delighted to have been nominated for the ‘Churches and Chaplaincy’ Heart for Harlow Award.

“We appreciate that a visit or stay in hospital can often be a time when pastoral, religious and spiritual support and a listening ear is helpful and we are committed to going the extra mile to enhance patient experiences.

“Since our new sanctuary space opened last December, the modern and inclusive environment has been well-received by our people.

“We look forward to the awards ceremony that will take place later this year – thank you to our patients, people and visitors for your continued support.”

Inpatient comment:

Everyone offered words of such reassurance and kindness. I felt so cared for and the communication with me at all times was fantastic.
