The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) has announced the winner of its DAISY Awards® programme for October 2024.

The programme enables patients, families and colleagues to honour a nurse or midwife who has made a difference to their care. The aim is to shine the spotlight on nurses and midwives who go the extra mile to ensure patients at PAHT receive high quality care and experiences.

The winner for October 2024 is Katie Beall, who works on the Adult Assessment Unit and lives in Dane End, who was nominated by one of her colleagues for the empathy and compassionate care she gives to patients in her care, especially those approaching the end of their life. A recent example was offering to shave a gentleman’s face who was usually clean shaven; something the family were extremely grateful she had proposed should be done.

Sharon McNally, chief nurse and Giuseppe Labriola, deputy chief nurse, surprised Katie at work yesterday (4 December) with the DAISY Award which includes a DAISY Award® certificate, a beautiful hand carved Healer’s Touch Sculpture from Zimbabwe, a pin badge, copy of the full nomination, a gift bag and cinnamon rolls.

Sharon said: “It is clear from the detailed nomination received from Katie’s colleague that she exemplifies our trust values to put the patient at the heart of all she does.

“As a trust we place great importance on supporting patients, and their families, at end of life with care and compassion; I am delighted Katie’s dedication and commitment Katie gives to her patients has been recognised through the DAISY Awards.

“Thank you Katie for all you do to support our patients here at PAHT.”

DAISY Award® winners are also entitled to numerous professional development, education and wellness benefits.

Inpatient comment:

Everyone offered words of such reassurance and kindness. I felt so cared for and the communication with me at all times was fantastic.
