DAISY Award® winner announced for June 2024

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) has announced the winner of its DAISY Awards® programme for June 2024.

The programme enables patients, families and colleagues to honour a nurse or midwife who has made a difference to their care. The aim is to shine the spotlight on nurses and midwives who go the extra mile to ensure patients at PAHT receive high quality care and experiences.

The winner for June 2024 is Anna Mawbey, who is the ward manager on Penn Ward. Anna received her nomination from the family of a patient who had been cared for on Penn Ward last year. She was commended for the compassion and care shown not only to her patient, but the extended family too; and for going above and beyond to help with arrangements for the patient, who was on an end of life pathway with cancer, to make a special trip home to be with her son on his birthday.

Anna was surprised with her DAISY Award by Giuseppe Labriola, interim chief nurse, whilst at work on Penn Ward today and presented with her DAISY Award® certificate, a beautiful hand carved Healer’s Touch Sculpture from Zimbabwe, a pin badge, copy of the full nomination, a gift bag and cinnamon rolls. The award also gives her eligibility for numerous professional development, education and wellness benefits

Giuseppe said: “Congratulations to Anna on winning this DAISY Award® today, which is testament to our trust values of putting the patient at the heart of all we do. I would also like to thank the family for taking the time to submit this nomination and getting Anna the recognition she rightly deserves.”

Inpatient comment:

Everyone offered words of such reassurance and kindness. I felt so cared for and the communication with me at all times was fantastic.
