Community service donate towards comfort bags for local hospital

Patients at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) who are approaching the end of their life, and are being transitioned home can now benefit from a new comfort care package initiative.

Items within the comfort bag have been generously gifted by Rainbow Services (Harlow) and local community.

The initiative was introduced by the dedicated team at PAHT who get patients ready to go home. The bags are intended to bring comfort to patients who are going home and may not have any friends or family to purchase these essential items for them. The packs are especially important for patients who are approaching the end of their life, to ensure that their last journey home is comfortable and dignified.

Stephanie Newman, voluntary services discharge coordinator, said: “A huge thank you to Rainbow Services (Harlow) and the local community for donating to the comfort bag initiative.

“The bag of essentials can make all the difference to our patients. They include cotton flannels, a thermal blanket, comb, tissues, deodorant, a sip cup with a lid, small juices, soft toothbrushes, toothpaste, sensitive wipes, shower gels, moisturiser, lip balm and information leaflets.

“The kind donation will continue to help so many more vulnerable people in our community – we are so grateful.”

Kelly Tarling, community builder at Rainbow Services (Harlow) said: “It’s a pleasure to be able to support our local hospital through the National Lottery Community Fund. We hope our donation can make a difference to vulnerable patients on their return home from hospital, and give them a more comfortable and dignified experience.”

Inpatient comment:

Everyone offered words of such reassurance and kindness. I felt so cared for and the communication with me at all times was fantastic.
