Cases of norovirus at PAHT – please be vigilant

text reads norovirus - please be vigilant

We are seeing an increase in cases of norovirus on some of our wards and would urge visitors and patients to be vigilant, and take the following precautions when visiting any of our clinics/departments/hospital sites at The Princess Alexandra Hospital to help protect our patients and visitors:

  • Please do not visit any of our hospital sites if you have had symptoms of diarrhoea or vomiting, or been in contact with anyone that has, within the last 48 hours.
  • When visiting any of the hospital sites, please ensure you wash your hands with soap and water before arriving and on departure
  • If visiting a ward/department with cases of norovirus, please speak to the nurse-in-charge on your arrival to check any restrictions that are in place on the ward/department.
  • If you are a patient due to attend an appointment, or for a planned admission and had symptoms in the last 48 hours, please contact the relevant department or ward to inform them, so we can ensure that appropriate arrangements are made.

Norovirus is a highly contagious virus that usually causes mild symptoms like diarrhoea and vomiting, and can spread quickly in hospital settings.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and co-operation.

Inpatient comment:

Everyone offered words of such reassurance and kindness. I felt so cared for and the communication with me at all times was fantastic.
