The Children’s Emergency Department (ED) at The Princess Alexandra Hospital (Harlow) will open on Wednesday 10 June following completion of a major refurbishment programme. The department will return to its original location, round the corner from the Adult’s ED.
The newly refurbished department has been designed to create a bright, calm, and welcoming environment for children and young people aged 0 to 16 years, with decor tailored to appeal to a wide range of ages.
The reconfiguration has also created additional clinical space, allowing more children and young people to be treated with greater privacy and comfort, while providing an improved working environment for staff.
A bespoke safe space with en-suite bathroom facilities for young people presenting to the Emergency Department in mental health crisis has also been created.
The department had been temporarily relocated while the refurbishment works were carried out. Thank you to patients, families and visitors for their patience and understanding during this period.
