Endoscopy

Endoscopy

patient in bed

Our endoscopy team provides a range of high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy and bronchoscopy.

Endoscopy is a nonsurgical procedure to examine the inside of a patient and allows our medical team to make a diagnosis and form a treatment plan. We examine the digestive tract and respiratory tract through an endoscope, a flexible viewing tube with a light and camera attached. This can be through:

  • The mouth into the stomach (gastroscopy)
  • The anus into the large bowel (colonoscopy or flexible sigmoidoscopy)
  • The mouth into the lungs (bronchoscopy)
  • The mouth into the stomach, then bile duct (ERCP - endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography)

Endoscopy is also used for the removal of polyps, small gallstones and insertion of feeding tubes.

Everyone offered words of such reassurance and kindness. I felt so cared for and the communication with me at all times was fantastic.
