Introduction
We hope this guide will answer your questions about your skin check, please contact the
team if you require further information via the details at the end of this leaflet.
What is a skin check?
A skin check looks for any changes in the condition of your skin since your procedure in
the Cath lab.
Why do I need a skin check?
During your recent angiogram or angioplasty procedure, you were exposed to a higher than expected dose of X rays. It is routine to check your skin six to eight weeks after the procedure to check for any persistent changes in the condition of your skin as a result.
Getting to us
Once you have arrived at The Princess Alexandra Hospital (Hamstel Road, Harlow, Essex,
CM20 1QX), follow the signage to the cardiology reception, which is located on the ground floor, blue zone. Please let the receptionists know that you have arrived for your appointment.
When should I arrive?
Please arrive no more than 15 minutes before your appointment time.
The Skin Check
You will be asked to remove your clothing to the waist to carry out the check of the skin over your chest and back. If you have any concerns about the condition of your skin, please raise them with the nurse during your examination. If required, the nurse will contact your cardiologist who will make a referral for you to see a dermatologist (a skin specialist) who will check your skin in more detail.
How long will it take?
The skin check will only take a few minutes.
Eating and Drinking
You may eat and drink as usual before and following the skin check.
