The virtual visiting team at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) is calling for valuable support from the community to help with its virtual visiting service.
Virtual visiting connects our inpatients to their family and friends through video calls. Our virtual visiting team manage dedicated volunteers who assist our inpatients and their loved ones during their virtual visit.
Lisa Thurley, virtual visiting and message to a loved one coordinator, said: “Virtual visiting is an essential service, keeping patients and their loved ones connected whilst they are in hospital.
“It is very rewarding to see a patient’s face light up when they see a familiar face, hear a familiar voice, and also being there to support both the patient and their loved one. We are pleased to have been able to connect patients with friends and relatives locally and internationally.”
Philippa Haslehurst, voluntary services manager, said: “What was once a critical reaction to keeping patients in touch with their families at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, has now become a professional service that gives every member of our community the opportunity to communicate with their loved ones.
“The service has gone from strength to strength and will continue to be a part of the visiting arrangements at PAHT.”
Sharon McNally, director of nursing, midwifery and allied health professionals, said: “Volunteering at PAHT is such an invaluable and rewarding role that plays a huge part in making a difference for our patients and our people. We are extremely grateful to anyone who can contribute their time to assist us with our virtual visiting service.”
