I started working for the PAHT pharmacy department in 2016 as a band 4 rotational pharmacy technician. I started my rotations in the dispensary, and then moved to the Technical Service Unit (TSU) where they compound and dispense chemotherapy and MAB’s.
During my TSU rotation, I found this was an area I really enjoyed working in. A band 5 secondment opportunity arose within TSU, which I put myself forward for and was successful at interview.
I worked as a band 5 core TSU technician for one year. After my secondment ended, I went back to being a band 4 rotational technician, I was then put forward to complete my accuracy checking pharmacy technician (ACPT) course, I passed this in 2018.
It was then that a band 5 rotational technician job opportunity came up, which I applied for and was successful at interview.
I then began my ward-based training, and medicines management qualification, both of which were completed by May 2019. I then went on to complete the trust leadership course in December 2019.
I have also worked closely with the Quality First team getting a project up and running that I was very passionate about, based on an idea I had to reduce paper bags, and duplicate medication orders in pharmacy as well as identify discharge medications at ward level, this was then put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In November 2021, another great opportunity arose in the pharmacy department as a band 6 clinical lead and education and training technician secondment job came up, which was a position I had always wanted to gain experience in as training is something I am very passionate about. I applied for the position and was successful, I have been in this current post for six months now and I have learnt so many new skills.
In the six years I have been at PAHT, I have developed and grown so much from each opportunity that has been made available, I am very grateful for this. I feel my ideas and development are valued in my department. I am excited to see what the future holds.
