The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) is delighted to announce that Joy Adindu, Registered Nurse on Henry Moore Ward, has been awarded the DAISY Award for May 2026; and Ellice Simmons, Registered Midwife on the Maternity Unit, for June 2026.
Joy from Waltham Abbey, was nominated by a patient for exceptional care and support during emergency surgery, for prioritising the welfare of her patient, taking time to reassure relatives and staying past the end of her shift to ensure they had all the information they needed ahead of discharge.
Ellice from Harlow, was recognised by the partner of a patient she looked after during the birth of their son. The nomination praised the maternity team for their professionalism and compassionate care and gave special recognition to Ellice for her calm and expert response during a post-birth emergency.
The DAISY Award programme enables patients, families, and colleagues to honour a nurse or midwife who has made a difference to their care and have gone the extra mile to ensure patients receive high-quality care and experiences.
Joy and Ellice were surprised at work this week when they were presented with the DAISY Award® certificate, hand-carved Healer’s Touch Sculpture from Zimbabwe, pin badge, copy of the nomination, gift bag and cinnamon rolls – a meaningful tradition of the award.
Jo Ward, Interim Chief Nursing Officer, said: “The nomination for Joy highlights how she went above and beyond to support both her patient and their family, ensuring they felt cared for, informed and reassured throughout their journey and I am incredibly proud of the difference she has made.
“Ellice and the wider maternity team provided reassurance during an extremely challenging time for this family; and it is wonderful to receive such positive feedback about our maternity services.
“Both of these nominations highlight the positive and lasting impact that compassionate, patient-centred care can have on patients and their families. A heartfelt thank you to Joy and Ellice for all you do to support patients in your care.”
