The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) is delighted to announce that Getrude (Trudy) Ziwewe, Interim Labour Ward Coordinator, has been awarded the DAISY Award for February 2026, in recognition of her exceptional professionalism, calm leadership, and compassionate care.
Trudy, from Harlow, has also received two other accolades in recent weeks that include Special Recognition Award in the Midwife of the Year category at the Mariposa Awards held at The Landmark Hotel in London on 25 April where the judges felt she deserved particular acknowledgement for her dedication, impact, and unwavering commitment to supporting women, families, and colleagues alike.
Chief Midwifery Officer (CMidO) for England Kate Brintworth also presented her with the CMidO Silver Award on 5 May as part of International Day of the Midwife celebrations at PAHT after being nominated by a service user for her compassionate leadership, informed care and unwavering support during bereavement and recovery.
The DAISY Award programme enables patients, families, and colleagues to honour a nurse or midwife who has made a difference to their care and have gone the extra mile to ensure patients receive high-quality care and experiences.
Trudy was nominated for her consistent professional, calm, and compassionate approach to supporting patients, colleagues, and students. She is described as a trusted team member, an outstanding mentor, and someone who regularly goes above and beyond to help others.
Jo Ward, Interim Chief Nurse surprised Trudy at work last week (8 May) where she presented her with her DAISY Award® certificate, hand-carved Healer’s Touch Sculpture from Zimbabwe, pin badge, copy of her nomination, gift bag and cinnamon rolls – a meaningful tradition of the award.
Jo said: “These accolades collectively highlight Trudy’s dedication to compassionate maternity care, and the deep respect she has earned from patients, colleagues, and the wider profession alike.
“I am absolutely delighted to present the DAISY Award to her and to recognise the exceptional standard of care she delivers every day.”
DAISY Award® winners also receive access to professional development, education and wellness benefits as part of the programme.
