Staff from The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) will take on a challenging Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) trek next month (September) to raise awareness of dementia and funds for The Princess Alexandra Hospital Charity’s dementia care fund.
The Summit for Memories 2026 challenge has been organised by Dr Ganesh Arunachalam, Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine, and Dr Deb Ghosh, Consultant Gastroenterologist, who will be joined by fellow PAHT colleagues for the trek on Saturday 19 September 2026.
The staff-led fundraising initiative is taking place ahead of World Alzheimer’s Day (21 September), with the aim of raising awareness, reducing stigma and supporting people living with dementia and their families.
Funds raised will support the PAH Charity’s dementia care fund, helping to provide calming spaces, meaningful activities and specialist dementia training for staff at The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow.
Dr Ganesh Arunachalam, Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine at PAHT, said: “There are around one million people in the UK living with dementia, affecting many more families and carers. As healthcare professionals, we see first-hand the difference that compassionate, person-centred care can make.
“We wanted to bring colleagues together around a challenge that raises awareness while supporting dementia care at PAHT. Yr Wyddfa will certainly test us, but we hope our community will get behind the team and support us.”
Dr Deb Ghosh, Consultant Gastroenterologist at PAHT, said: “The Summit for Memories is about coming together as colleagues for something that has a real purpose. We’re looking forward to taking on the challenge, supporting each other along the way and raising as much as we can for the dementia care fund.
“Every donation, whatever the amount, will help make a difference to patients living with dementia and the staff caring for them.”
Natalie Tarrant, Head of Charity for the PAH Charity, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Ganesh, Deb and everyone taking part in the Summit for Memories. Fundraising challenges like this help shine a light on the importance of dementia care while raising vital funds that can make a direct difference to patients and families at PAHT.
“We wish the team the very best for their trek and hope people will support them with a donation.”
The team will travel from Harlow to Snowdonia on Friday 18 September, complete the trek on Saturday 19 September, and return to Harlow that evening.
Participation in the trek is limited to PAHT staff, while members of the public are warmly encouraged to support the team through the fundraising campaign.
