The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) is delighted to announce that Muditha Guruge, Registered Nurse on Harvey Ward is the DAISY Award winner for March 2026.
Muditha, from Harlow, was nominated by a patient for her exceptional kindness, compassion and dedication. They described how she consistently goes out of her way to ensure patients are comfortable, supported and fully informed, taking time to manage pain, offer reassurance and provide company to those without visitors. Her gentle manner, thoughtful gestures and ability to remember patients’ histories made a lasting impact.
The DAISY Award programme enables patients, families, and colleagues to honour a nurse or midwife who has made a difference to their care and have gone the extra mile to ensure patients receive high-quality care and experiences.
Jo Ward Chief Nursing Officer (Interim) surprised Muditha at work yesterday where she presented her with the DAISY Award® certificate, hand-carved Healer’s Touch Sculpture from Zimbabwe, pin badge, copy of the nomination, gift bag and cinnamon rolls – a meaningful tradition of the award.
Commenting on the nomination for Muditha, she said:” It is clear that Muditha brings compassion and dedication to her role every day. Her kindness, gentle communication and ability to remember and truly see each patient make a profound difference – qualities that make her an outstanding nurse and thoroughly deserving of the DAISY Award.”
DAISY Award® winners also receive access to professional development, education and wellness benefits as part of the programme.
