The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) has announced the winners of its DAISY Awards® programme for October and November 2025.
The programme enables patients, families, and colleagues to honour a nurse or midwife who has made a difference to their care and have gone the extra mile to ensure patients receive high-quality care and experiences.
The October 2025 DAISY Award® was presented to Rohaida Mama, a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department, and the November 2025 award to Aliyah Reynolds, a Registered Nurse on the Children’s Ward (Dolphin Ward). Both Rohaida and Aliyah live in Harlow.
Rohaida was nominated by a colleague for her extraordinary compassion and commitment to patient care. The nomination highlighted how she consistently goes above and beyond to support both patients and colleagues and described her as a truly exceptional nurse deserving of recognition.
Aliyah was nominated by the parent of a patient she cared for. Her kind and gentle manner helped a young child remain calm during a frightening situation while also supporting the child’s parents. Despite the seriousness of the situation, the child felt so safe that she was sad to leave the hospital, not to be going home, but because she was leaving the staff who had cared for her, particularly Aliyah.
Polly Read, Interim Deputy Chief Nurse, surprised both winners at work on 8 January, presenting them with their DAISY Award® certificates, hand-carved Healer’s Touch Sculptures from Zimbabwe, pin badges, copies of their nominations, gift bags and cinnamon rolls – a meaningful tradition of the award.
Polly said: “To be nominated by a colleague makes Rohaida’s award especially meaningful and is testament to the support she provides to both patients and colleagues.
“Aliyah’s nomination highlights her compassionate approach for young people in her care and their families. For a child to feel sad about leaving hospital because of the people who cared for them speaks volumes.
“On behalf of the Trust, thank you to you both for the exceptional care you provide.”
