The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) has announced the winner of its DAISY Awards® programme for September 2025.
The programme enables patients, families, and colleagues to honour a nurse or midwife who has made a difference to their care and to shine a spotlight on those who go the extra mile to ensure patients receive high-quality care and experiences.
For September, the DAISY Award® has been presented to Anjali Purkait, from Harlow, a registered nurse in the Emergency Department (ED) at PAHT.
Anjali was nominated by a patient she helped care for in ED, who commented that her caring nature was a talent that should not go unnoticed; and that they could foresee her developing to become a young leader in nursing. The patient had arrived in ED feeling very low but thanks to Anjali’s support, explaining procedures taking place and giving general support, their spirits were lifted.
Jo Ward, Interim Chief Nursing Officer visited ED this week (10 November) to surprise Anjali at work and present her with the DAISY Award® certificate, a beautiful hand-carved Healer’s Touch Sculpture from Zimbabwe, a pin badge, a copy of the full nomination, a gift bag and cinnamon rolls – a meaningful tradition of the award.
Jo said: “This nomination not only reflects Anjali’s professional approach to her role, but her caring nature too; that combined have left a lasting impression on this patient. The patient arrived in our Emergency Department feeling very low, and possibly quite anxious, but with Anjali’s support their spirits were lifted, making their journey a little easier to cope with.
“A very heartfelt thank you to you Anjali for all you do, to support patients in our Emergency Department.”
DAISY Award® winners also receive access to numerous professional development, education and wellness benefits as part of the programme.
