Dedicated colleagues at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) recently held a community fundraising event at Hatfield Heath Cricket Club.
The annual memorial cricket match was held in honour of Dr C M Gopinath, father of Dr Preethi Gopinath, director of medical education at PAHT and husband of Dr Shashi Gopinath, consultant anaesthetist at PAHT, and Mr Praveen Gopinath (son) who is an orthopaedic specialty registrar in the east of England and has previously worked at PAHT, who has regularly played and captained this match for the many years of its duration.
The event brought together staff, families, and residents for a day filled with cricket, connection, and charitable giving – all in support of The Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) Charity’s palliative care fund.
The day began with an exciting mix of 20/20 and quick cricket, followed by a buffet-style Indian lunch, generously sponsored by The Rivers Hospital (Ramsay Health Care). Spectators enjoyed a vibrant atmosphere, with a raffle and auction featuring a range of sought-after prizes adding to the fundraising effort.
Natalie Tarrant, head of the PAH charity, said: “This annual event is more than just a cricket match – it is a meaningful tribute to the memory of Dr C M Gopinath and a celebration of legacy, compassion, and community spirit.
“In total, the event raised £1032 with all proceeds enhancing palliative care services at PAHT, making a real difference for patients nearing the end of their life, and their loved ones.
“We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who participated, contributed, or volunteered to make the day a great success.”
Dr Preethi Gopinath, director of medical education at PAHT, said: “It is deeply moving to see so many people come together each year to honour my father’s memory. My family and I are truly grateful to everyone who played, cheered, donated, or volunteered – your generosity will help provide comfort and dignity for patients and families when they need it most.”
