A former patient at The Princess Alexandra Hospital has donated £1,000 to The Princess Alexandra Hospital Charity to support Fleming Ward, as a thank you to the staff who cared for him during a ten week stay while he awaited complex cardiac treatment.
John Ley, from Broxbourne, was admitted with chest pain, and required a new aortic valve but faced complications that meant surgery could not take place immediately. During his time on Fleming Ward, John came to know a wide range of staff, from cleaning and catering teams to the nurses, doctors, consultants and ward management team too and wanted to give something back to show his gratitude for their compassion and reassurance.
John said: “The empathy, professionalism and dedication of everyone that looked after me was exemplary. This is a modest donation, but I wanted to give something back to say thank you to the ward team; they were a source of strength that I will never forget.”
Natalie Tarrant, Head of charity at The Princess Alexandra Hospital Charity, said: “We often see patients and families choose to support the charity as a way of saying thank you for the care they’ve received, and John’s generosity is a wonderful example of that.
“We are incredibly proud of the Fleming Ward team, and donations like this will help the charity support the ward by enhancing patient care, investing in specialist equipment and improving facilities for patients and their families.”
