Taylor and Harriet, a local couple from Waltham Abbey, are inviting the community to come together for a 5-a-side charity football tournament to raise funds for The Princess Alexandra Hospital Charity’s Neonatal Unit fund.
The event will take place on 13 June 2026, from 12:30pm to 7pm at Shooters Football, Rayley Lane, North Weald Bassett, Epping (CM16 6AR). Teams of up to eight players can register for £200 per team, with only 16 slots available.
The couple’s inspiration comes from their son Reuben, who was born on 16 October 2025 and immediately required care in the Neonatal Unit due to breathing difficulties. Reuben spent nine days under the round-the-clock care of the hospital’s neonatal team, whose support Taylor and Harriet describe as ‘incredible’.
Harriet, Reuben’s mum, said: “We will never forget the moment Reuben took his first breath on his own. We wanted to give back to the team that gave our son exceptional care and provided comfort for us.”
Taylor, Reuben’s dad, added: “We hope this event brings the community together – whether you’re playing, cheering, or donating, every contribution helps. We also have a BBQ and prizes to be won in the raffle.”
Natalie Tarrant, Head of The Princess Alexandra Hospital Charity, said: “The tournament is more than just a game. The funds raised will support with funding additional equipment and resources for babies in the Neonatal Unit. Community initiatives like this make a real difference to the care and experiences we can provide to our smallest patients and their families.”
Husnara Begum, Neonatal Unit Matron, added: “Our team works tirelessly to care for premature and unwell babies like Reuben, and support from the community helps us continue this vital work. Events like this not only raise funds but also raise awareness of the challenges families face during what can be a frightening time.”
