An orchestra will perform in aid of The Princess Alexandra Hospital Charity in a night of classical music.
The Saffron Walden Symphony Orchestra will play their ‘Concert to Remember Heroes’ at Saffron Hall, Saffron Walden, on Saturday 27 November. They will treat the audience to big classical numbers including the premiere of a new commission Der Trommler, composed by Jacob Bride, which was inspired by the bronze statue of a drummer boy that currently sits in the Tate Art Gallery in London.
The orchestra, which is a community orchestra formed of both professional and amateur players, will be be joined by local pianist Stephen Smithers. He will play Sergei Rachmaninov ’s second piano concerto, which established Rachmaninov as a famous concerto composer, and has been used in films such as David Lean’s Brief Encounter and Clint Eastwood’s Hereafter.
The concert will close with Philip Glass’ Heroes Symphony, which is a six-piece classical reworking of David Bowie’s 1977 album ‘Heroes’.
John Keddie, non-executive director and chair of The Princess Alexandra Hospital Charity committee, who will be attending the event on behalf of the charity, said: “A huge thank you to The Saffron Walden Symphony Orchestra and guests for dedicating their time to organise this night to support our charity; our people and the NHS.
