The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) has announced the winner of its DAISY Awards® programme for January 2025.
The programme enables patients, families, and colleagues to honour a nurse or midwife who has made a difference to their care. The aim is to shine the spotlight on nurses and midwives who go the extra mile to ensure patients at PAHT receive high -quality care and experiences.
The winner for January 2025 is Carina Pimenta, a tissue viability specialist from Harlow. The nomination highlighted how Carina goes above and beyond to support not only patients in her care but also colleagues too. One example was a patient, a double amputee with limited upper body strength, who was feeling very low whilst in hospital. She sang to him to boost his spirits, made special arrangements for the family dog to visit the hospital, in line with infection prevention and control protocols, and most importantly, helped him to believe in himself to overcome the challenges faced. She is described as someone who works miracles to help patients suffering with their mental health to turn those feelings around, to smile, and to trust in themselves.
Sharon McNally, chief nurse and deputy chief executive at PAHT, and Giuseppe Labriola, deputy chief nurse at PAHT, surprised Carina at work today (11 March) with the DAISY® Award, which includes a DAISY Award® certificate, a beautiful hand-carved Healer’s Touch Sculpture from Zimbabwe, a pin badge, a copy of the full nomination, a gift bag and cinnamon rolls.
Sharon said: “Our DAISY® Awards recognise nurses and midwives that go above and beyond for our patients and there is no doubt from the nomination received that Carina does just that, always putting the patient at the heart of all she does.
“I was so pleased to personally surprise Carina with the DAISY® Award today and to say a very heartfelt thank you on behalf of the trust for her continued efforts to support both patients in her care and colleagues.”
