A Harlow teenager has showed his support for his local NHS heroes by shaving his locks to raise funds for The Princess Alexandra Hospitals’ Charity’s coronavirus (COVID-19) appeal.
Jamie Cleary, 14, asked his family members and friends to sponsor him to shave off his curly hair, raising more than £200 towards the fight against coronavirus.
Jamie said: “I often hear about how hard all of the doctors, nurses and support teams work on the television; I wanted to give back and do something to help them through this challenging time.”
Carly Cleary, 40, Jamie’s mum, added: “I am extremely proud of Jamie for supporting our amazing NHS workers.
“Jamie has been diagnosed with ADHD and does not usually deal with change very well, however, he has taken this fundraising challenge in his stride – I think it’s a remarkable thing for a teenager to do.
“He isn’t too fond of his new haircut and misses his lovely curls, but knows that it is all for worthy cause! I’m so pleased that he has been able to do something positive to help our local hospital, who have previously provided care for our family.”
Ogechi Emeadi, director of people, organisational development and communications said: “We have been overwhelmed and touched by the level of support from our local community.
“A huge thank you and well done to Jamie for raising the funds and shaving his hair – this is a kind gesture and will be greatly appreciated by each and every one of our hard working teams during this challenging time.”
