From Wednesday (1 November) there will be a change in provider of the Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) service at The Princess Alexandra Hospital. Going forward, the Integrated Urgent Assessment and Treatment Centre service will be provided by local GPs working with nurse practitioners and other clinicians, with the aim to improve urgent care pathways for the local population. We will also be able to book patients into the Integrated Urgent Assessment and Treatment Centre at the first available arrival time following a clinical assessment at the front door of both our adult and paediatric emergency departments.
The services provided, the opening times (8am-midnight, seven days a week) and the location of the Integrated Urgent Assessment and Treatment Centre at the former outpatients’ department opposite the Marks & Spencer store at The Princess Alexandra Hospital will remain the same.
Jenny Abel, associate director of urgent and emergency care, said: “This is an important step in our aim to enhance patient flow when accessing urgent care and supporting patient experience, including the functionality to book arrival slots at the Integrated Urgent Assessment and Treatment Centre when visiting our emergency department.”

“With this revised approach to providing urgent care, including prearranged time slots at the Integrated Urgent Assessment and Treatment Centre, we are working to improve access and support our patients to wait in the comfort of their homes and return to the Integrated Urgent Assessment and Treatment Centre at a bookable arrival time where appropriate.”
