The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) has announced the winner of its DAISY Awards® programme for July 2025.
The programme enables patients, families, and colleagues to honour a nurse or midwife who has made a difference to their care and to shine a spotlight on those who go the extra mile to ensure patients receive high-quality care and experiences.
For July, the DAISY Award® has been presented to Kalaiyarasan (Kalai) Murugesan, from Harlow, a registered nurse on Charnley Ward at PAHT.
Kalai was nominated by a patient for the professional, compassionate and conscientious approach to caring for his patients; escalating concerns quickly and efficiently and always striving to do his very best.
Jo Ward, interim chief nursing officer, and Giuseppe Labriola, deputy chief nurse, surprised Kalai at work this week (15 October), presenting him with his DAISY Award® certificate, a beautiful hand-carved Healer’s Touch Sculpture from Zimbabwe, a pin badge, a copy of the full nomination, a gift bag and cinnamon rolls – a meaningful tradition of the award.
Jo said: “I am delighted to present this DAISY Award to Kalai today, the nomination clearly demonstrates that he puts the patient at the heart of all he does. A very heartfelt thank you for all you do to support patients in your care.”
DAISY Award® winners also receive access to numerous professional development, education and wellness benefits as part of the programme.
