Molly Babuniak, the daughter of a patient who sadly passed away from cancer at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) in December took on a 100km running challenge and raised £1,933 to help support the Butterfly Hub at the hospital.
The Butterfly Hub, a service run by a team of PAHT volunteers, helps support patients at the end of life, their family and carers. The money raised has been used to purchase much needed portable beds, which will be used by carers and relatives who find themselves staying overnight to support loved ones at the end of life.
Molly, from Hackney Wick in East London, had initially set up a Go Fund Me page to help raise funds for an alternative cancer therapy that her mum had been keen to explore and given herself the challenge of completing a 100k run in January.
After her mum’s passing, she wanted to give something back and decided to continue with the challenge; and donate part of the funds raised to the Butterfly Hub at the hospital to help support other families in a similar situation in the future.
Molly said: “We will be forever grateful for the kindness and compassion shown to us by the Butterfly Hub volunteers who supported my mum and our family during her final weeks.
“This is a small token to say a very big thank you, and I know the money will be put to very good use to help support other families in a similar position in the future.”

“On behalf of the team, a very big thank you to Molly for taking on this challenge and helping to raise much needed funds to ensure our Butterfly Hub can continue to be of comfort to other patients, their families and carers, in the future. The funds will be used to purchase portable beds for the comfort of relatives who find themselves staying overnight to support their loved ones at the end of life.”
