Car parking
We hope that patients and visitors understand that we need to charge for car parking with a tariff structure to help manage demand and ensure we can meet the costs of maintaining the car parks. Free parking arrangements are in place for registered Blue Badge holders, parents/guardians who need to stay overnight with young people in our care; for patients that need to attend for appointments or treatments on a regular basis, and other exemptions. Please refer to the car parking tariffs and exemptions and concessions sections for The Princess Alexandra Hospital below for more information.
There are 433 car parking spaces available for patients and visitors at The Princess Alexandra Hospital, including 41 Blue Badge holder bays, 12 drop-off bays and three motorcycle bays.
There is a very high demand for parking at the hospital, so we recommend you plan your journey and leave plenty of time to get here.
Visitor parking is available in the blue parking areas around the hospital site: P2, P3, P4, P7 and P8.
Please refer to the map (pictured) for details of the different locations.

We have an automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) system, operated by Parking Eye (see the how your information is used section below), which monitors the arrival and departure times of vehicles to and from the site.
Parking is free for the first 20 minutes, which is calculated from the time you enter the hospital site.

Blue Badge holders
Parking for Blue Badge holders is free – please see below for details of how to register.
There are 41 marked disabled bays at The Princess Alexandra Hospital site for Blue Badge holders; you are also welcome to use standard parking bays.
We have introduced a new system that requires Blue Badges to be registered at the machines located in the car parks. This system aims to make the process more efficient and user-friendly (details below).
New process for registering Blue Badges:
- Display the clock section of your Blue Badge in your car for the duration of your visit and take the Blue Badge with you. You do not need to register at the start of your visit, this can be registered at the end of your visit.
- At the end of your visit, use one of the machines in our car parks.
- Enter your vehicle registration number, select the Blue Badge option, and scan the barcode on your Blue Badge.
If your Blue Badge has already been registered using the previous process and is in date, there is no need to re-register again until it expires or you change your vehicle registration.
Those who are not registered or need to renew their Blue Badge must use the machine at the end of their visit as described above.
Other exemptions and concessions
Free parking arrangements are in place for the following patients/visitors:
Blue Badge Holders: Please refer to the Blue Badge Holders section above.
Parent/guardian of any child admitted to Dolphin Ward, Maternity or Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU): You can use the tablets located on these wards to register your vehicle. Please speak to a member of staff if you need assistance. This exemption does not apply when visiting the Paediatric Emergency Department.
Frequent outpatient attendees: Free parking is available for patients who regularly attend the hospital for outpatient appointments that occur at least three times a month, for a minimum of three months.
