Our research and development team delivers cutting edge research, enabling new models of care and treatments to directly tackle the region’s pressing health challenges through innovation, collaboration, and evidence-based care. Our Trust is actively involved in a diverse array of clinical trials, spanning multiple specialties and encompassing both multi-centre and international studies.
We are committed to ensuring that our local community has access to cutting edge treatments, with every patient having the opportunity to participate in clinical research.
Patients and the public play a crucial role in the success of research within the NHS. Their participation enables the development of pioneering treatments, which can include medicines, medical devices, developing minimally intrusive diagnostics and exploring strategies for disease prevention. We collaborate with sponsors to implement research specific trial protocols, ensuring the collection of vital data and samples, such as blood or tissue, while providing comprehensive patient care throughout the research journey.
We manage all aspects of clinical research, prioritising patient safety while establishing studies and ensuring compliance with all nationally recognised regulatory approvals.
Our overall ambition is to improve patient outcomes, enhance the understanding of all PAHT staff on the importance of research and its impact, whilst stimulating and enhancing economic growth both within the trust and the local community, and to be an attractive partner for commercial sponsors to deliver research.
How is research funded?
The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) funds, enables and delivers world leading health and social care research that improves people’s health and wellbeing, and promotes economic growth.
The NIHR has two purposes:
- To support the successful delivery of high-quality research as an active partner in the research system
- To increase capacity and capability of the research delivery infrastructure for the future
They fund 12 Regional Research Delivery Networks (RRDN), we are part of East of England.
