As the plans and designs for the new hospital are developed and created we will share updates, photos and videos on this page. Whilst we await the details of the design and images of the build beginning to take shape we thought it would be helpful to share a few images of the current Princess Alexandra Hospital to give you an insight into the challenges our buildings and estate present.
The need for a new hospital is recognised and we are delighted that we are in a position to develop plans for a building and site that is fit for the future.
The Princess Alexandra Hospital was opened by HRH Princess Alexandra in 1965 and planned and constructed across a number of years before. In the subsequent decades, the NHS has grown and, significantly, so has the range of skills, equipment and technology that is needed to provide up to date high quality care and diagnostics. Over the years additional space has been added and buildings added to accommodate equipment and the floor space required.
The detailed planning of the building design and the space and environment to provide care will create a new purpose built hospital that can meet the needs of the 21st century.
