In addition, it has also received official confirmation from the General Medical Council (GMC) that it can open Essex's first undergraduate School of Medicine to educate the county's doctors of the future. The news reflects the high quality clinical training PAHT trainees receive at the university, as one of the main education providers for nursing and midwifery training and education for the trust.  Dr Andy Morris, Chief Medical Officer,  said that the trust can look forward to wider provision of medical staff in coming years.

ARU was named in the top 301-350 out of potentially 17,000 higher education institutions globally in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.

Approximately 60 nurses and 15 midwives are allocated annually to the Princess Alexandra NHS Trust from Anglia Ruskin University for their clinical placements. In addition, seven new Student Physician Associates on placement from ARU will spend a year at PAH rotating through surgery, medicine, paediatrics, the emergency department, obstetrics, gynaecology and psychiatry.  Six Student Physician Associates from the 2016 cohort have been appointed to posts within the trust in respiratory, emergency medicine and the acute medical unit.

Professor Fontaine is also a Professor of Nursing at Anglia Ruskin University.

Marcelle Michail, Deputy Chief Medical Officer at PAHT said: "We have enjoyed a close association with Anglia Ruskin University and continue to benefit from the training it provides for our staff - notably our maternity service which has been rated outstanding. We congratulate the university on its continued success ."
