Blood Tests

A blood test is when a sample of blood is taken for testing in a laboratory. Blood tests have a wide range of uses and are one of the most common types of medical test.

Why would you need a blood test?

  • To assess your general state of health.
  • Confirm the presence of an infection.
  • See how well certain organs, such as liver or kidneys, are working.
  • Screen for certain medical conditions.

Appointments

You do not need an appointment for most blood tests, unless you are having a Glucose Tolerance Test or a child is having a blood test. To book your appointment at PAH please contact Princess Alexandra Specimen Reception on 01279 827030 or visit B23 in the hospital.
