(Available in Harlow only at present)
We are two midwives who jobshare to provide midwifery care specifically for women under 20. We are based in the Meadows Children's Centre and work alongside the Harlow Community Team and the Spring Team in Harlow.
Specific Patient Information
You will have an initial appointment with the Midwife at around 10 weeks to discuss your medical and social history. We will arrange blood and ultra sound screening tests as appropriate.
A plan of care for your pregnancy is discussed (following the appropriate clinical guidelines) according to whether you are high or low risk.
Care is individually planned for every woman, but generally low risk care is provided by your midwife and GP. High risk care will be shared with a consultant. We also provide advice about money matters, housing and signpost to other agencies such as Connexions and Catch 22.
We discuss your birth plan with you and as appropriate can offer you the option to have your baby at home or the Princess Alexandra Maternity unit, either on the Birthing Unit or Labour Ward.
The midwives provide parentcraft sessions tailored to the individual mother and birth partners.
We will visit you at home the day after you are discharged from hospital and arrange your postnatal care with you to meet your individual needs. We generally visit until day 28.
