The Princess Alexandra Hospital is pleased to offer a midwife led, home from home, Birthing Unit. It centres around the partnership between midwife and parents and the importance of informed choice.
The Birthing Unit has been developed to offer a safe birth option in a home from home environment for women in good medical health with an uncomplicated pregnancy. It is organized and run by a Midwife and assisted by a Maternity Care Assistant.
It has a separate identity to that of the labour ward, offering a more relaxed, friendly and safe place for women to give birth in, which has been shown to facilitate normal labour and birth without the need for medical intervention.
The Birthing Unit facilities include three birthing pools.
