Complex care medical ward for people 18 years and over.
The ward is led by the ward manager and ward consultant who work closely to facilitate and promote a high standard of patient care. We also have a dedicated team of Doctors (GPs) that work within the ward area. The current nursing team have a diverse range of experience.
The ward area can be very busy at all times of the day. We often have a diverse patient group from those with general illness through to those with mental health needs.
The emphasis is very much on a multidisciplinary approach and we work closely with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, discharge facilitator, social services and any other services a patient may require.
We work with the patient and family to facilitate a safe discharge and we will start to look at discharge as soon as the patient is admitted, this is to ensure a safe and timely discharge.
We encourage our patients to dress in their own clothing once the acute phase of their illness is over and they will need appropriate footwear to facilitate personal safety when mobilising.
The ward area is divided into two, A-F and G which has a team of nurses allocated to look after these areas. Each team is lead by a Sister, this enables continuity of care as staff are able to build up an in depth knowledge of patients requirements which facilitates the discharge process.
