Intensive Care Unit and High Dependency Unit

The new state of the art intensive care and high dependency unit delivers a reliable, safe and effective service for critically ill patients.

The intensive care service can care for up to seven patients who need monitoring and support for at least two or more of their main organs. The high dependency unit assists people who are at risk of their condition deteriorating.

A critical care outreach team work around the Hospital and visit all patients discharged from HDU who have been transferred to the wards. Their role is to prevent readmission to ITU. However should this happen the team are equipped with the skills and understanding to readmit quickly with minimal disruption to the patient.

The service continues to receive high praise from patients and their relatives. The team on the ward are well established and the senior members provide a nurturing environment in which the junior doctors and nurses can learn the best ways to provide care and treatment.
