We are one of the largest breast cancer research facilities north of London and undertake a great deal of clinical research trials. We feel that it is important to carry out these investigations so we can improve our understanding and find out how to prevent, diagnose and treat different kinds of breast cancer.
The length and commitment for each trial will vary on the investigation in question. Candidates that are invited to take part are chosen specifically because of the type of cancer they have and their suitability to the proposed drug being tested.
If we feel that you are an appropriate candidate then one of our research nurses will be in contact with you. Please be reassured that clinical trials are voluntary and there is no requirement for you to take
Our Bone Health Clinic is a unique service in Essex. It enables clinicians to refer patients being treated with hormones for a bone scan to see if they are at risk of osteoporosis. This is extremely important for cancer patients because certain medication can sap calcium from the body. If the tests indicate that patients are at high risk of this, often silent, bone disease then they can be offered a different course of treatment.
The team also offers a Family History Service. This facility allows analysis historical information about your relatives to predict the genetic risk of individuals developing breast cancer. Only between 5 – 10% of all breast cancers are thought to be hereditary. However, if you have any concerns about a strong family history of breast cancer then you can visit your GP who will refer you to this service.
Our fundraising activity enables us to carry out vital research trials - we very much appreciate any support which the public or companies can provide. View our forthcoming events here or give a donation via JustGiving.
