Welcome to the 'ITU Equipment Appeal' page.
Thank you to everyone who helped us raise £30,000 for an 'Echo Machine'. To have our own machine on the Unit helps the Dr's to gain vital, additional information about a patient's organs enabling us to diagnose and treat quicker at anytime of the day or night.
FUNDRAISING FOR 2013
We are aiming to raise £20,000 for advanced exercise/rehabilitation equipment for patients to use following their critical illness to help prevent as much muscle damage as we can during their stay in Critical Care. It can take weeks to months to recover from a critical illness which can have a huge impact on peoples lives once they have left hospital. The exercises and equipment used can be started while in ITU and HDU and will help towards a more speedy recovery and provide the best chance of getting back to their fitness levels prior to their illness.

If you would like to make a donation to the ITU Equipment Appeal there are a few options open to you, either by sending a cheque into the ITU, going onto the just giving website or by text.
Last year we raised over £50,000 for a High Frequency Oscillator Ventilator (HFOV). We are now 1 of only 19 hospitals in the UK who have their own HFOV which enables us to provide an alternative form of ventilation for patients with severe lung disease. The HFOV can reduce the risk of lung injury in these type of patients.
The money was raised through fantastic support from families of patients, ex patients, the local community and staff from ITU.
Money was raised through many different events:
- Recipe Book, filled with family recipes from staff, their families & friends.
- A 22 mile 'Sponsored Walk' from Stanstead Abbots to London.
- Race Night, Square Dancing Night & Disco.
- Charity Ball & Auction at The Manor of Groves Hotel, Sawbridgeworth.
- There were also many events by friends & families of patients, Dragon Boat Race, London Marathon, cake sale and many more!!
This year we aim to raise more money for 'State of the Art' equipment which will allow us to offer treatment that otherwise is only available in a few hospitals, we are delighted by the amount of support and donations we have received so far for our appeal.
