Occupational Therapy

The Occupational Therapy team aims to encourage, enable and facilitate patients to maintain, develop or regain optimal level of function so that patients can live as independently as possible. We aim to reduce your length of stay in hospital by offering help and support early to facilitate a safe discharge.
Our work primarily involves assessing patient’s functional and cognitive levels to identify any problems that would prevent them from returning home and leading independent lives.

Assessments carried out may include:

  • A personal care assessment ( includes washing and dressing)
  • Daily living activity assessment
  • Safety at home/Home assessment
  • Provision of equipment
  • Family meetings and multidisciplinary case conferences

The team also provides pre assessment for patients who will be coming into hospital for hip replacements. This is to identify any needs and supply equipment before the patient is admitted to hospital and avoiding discharge delays.

Facilities

A kitchen for assessing patients ability to carry out basic daily living tasks such as making a cup of tea
A specially adapted car with wheel chair access to enable the Occupational Therapist to take patients on home visits so that their needs can be more accurately determined.
