What do Dietitians do?

Dietitians are the only nutrition professionals to be statutorily regulated by the Health Professions Council to ensure they always work to the highest standard. They are uniquely qualified to diagnose and treat diet and nutrition problems at an individual and wider public health level. They use the most up to date public health and scientific research on food, health and disease, which they translate into practical guidance to enable people to make appropriate food and lifestyle choices.

Dietitians might provide dietary advice on the following conditions:

  • Malnutrition (generally referring to people who are underweight)
  • Diabetes
  • Cancer
  • Stroke
  • Heart disease
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Obesity
  • Food allergies
  • Coeliac disease
  • Crohn’s disease

  • Dysphagia
